On February 13th we will be leading a family-friendly snowshoe to Cherokee Marsh.  Bring along a friend and share your passion for conservation. This event offers a great opportunity to get out and about this winter, plus a chance to meet others who are investing in conservation where they live.

What to Bring:  Please bring appropriate clothing, water and snowshoes if there is deep snow. Don't have snowshoes? Rent snowshoes at Fontana Sports and $15 of the $25 rental will be donated to Natural Heritage Land Trust!

Cherokee Marsh was named a “wetland gem” by The Wisconsin Wetlands Association in 2009. Mary Binkley, Natural Heritage Land Trust supporter and naturalist, will lead us along 1.5 miles of easy trails, with a warm beverage and snacks to be enjoyed at the end. If there is little or no snow cover, the event will be a hike instead of a snowshoe. Shoe the Zoo THIS WEEKEND!

Saturday, Jan. 30th - 11:00 am & 1:00 pm
Sunday, Feb. 7th - 11:00 am & 1:00 pm

Please join us for some fun on the snow at Vilas Park as we support the Henry Vilas Zoo! This is our third year for Shoe the Zoo and it's all about having a great time while engaging in a fast-growing, simple-to-learn snow sport. If you can walk, you can snowshoe and half of every $20.00 one hour lesson fee will be donated to help Henry Vilas Zoo provide an experience that connects all people with the natural world. We are incredibly lucky to have an admission free zoo here in Madison!

We've taught hundreds of lessons through this program and people really enjoy learning about snowshoeing while supporting the Henry Vilas Zoo. Snowshoeing is a great way to get out and stay active during Wisconsin's cold and snowy winters. Lessons include rental snowshoes. We have both children's and adults. You can also try snowshoe poles out. We hope to see you there!

We're Ready for the Snow!

Workers at local outdoor store Fontana Sports in downtown Madison are saying ‘Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.’

“People definitely get really excited as soon as there is cold or there's snow we get calls that say, ‘Hey are you renting skis? Do you have snowshoes yet?’ So there's a lot of enthusiasm,” Manager Adam Remus said.
